The Land of Stories Book Review

[PLEASE NOTE: this is an OLD post. Information in this post may no longer be accurate and/or be cringy 😑]

I recently re-read The Land of Stories series. At the time that I had first got the books, they weren’t very interesting….but now I love them!

The series is about twins Alex and Conner Bailey, who are given a treasury of fairy tales from their grandmother. They fall into the book and are transported to a world called the Land of Stories, where all the fairy tales that they had read as kids are reality! And so the adventures begin.

There are six books in the series and the order is:

  1. The Wishing Spell
  2. The Enchantress Returns
  3. A Grimm Warning
  4. Beyond the Kingdoms
  5. An Author’s Odyssey (my favorite)
  6. Worlds Collide

Above is a map of the Land of Stories. The northern kingdom is the biggest, and is ruled by Snow White and the first Charming brother. The Charming Kingdom is ruled by Cinderella and the second Charming brother. The Sleeping Kingdom is ruled by Sleeping Beauty and the third Charming brother. The Corner Kingdom is ruled by Rapunzel and Sir William. The Troll and Goblin Territory is first ruled by the Troll King and the Goblin King, and then Trollbella. The Fairy Kingdom is ruled by the Fairy Council, which includes the Fairy Godmother, of course. The Red Riding Hood Kingdom is ruled by, yep, you guessed it, Little Red Riding Hood. But then Little Bo Peep is elected ruler, and she changes the name to The Bo Peep Republic. But then, The fourth Charming brother changes it to the Center Kingdom. The Elf Empire is ruled by Empress Elvina (who is an elf). And finally, the Dwarf Forests, who is ruled by nobody and is the setting of most cautionary tales!!! RUN!!!

These novels are fairy tale spin-offs, which I have read a lot of, but this series is probably the best. I think that Chris Colfer did a really good job remixing the fairy tales. We finally get to see why the villains did what they did, and what our favorite characters did after their tales were over. I strongly recommend this series if you are a fan of fractured fairy tales!
